Heather Fennerty

Heather is a Licensed Certified Social Worker employed by Innovative Therapeutic Services in Laurel, Maryland. She provides therapy and assessment services for clients ( primarily middle/ high school students and families ) using an eclectic approach tailored to the unique needs of each student.
Heather believes that when students are provided with emotional support, psycho-social skills, mental health education, guidance on self-care and coping skills, they are better able to manage the social and academic stresses of middle school and family life.
Heather has a passion for supporting and educating students using a variety of modalities: Cognitive Behavioral therapy, Strengths Based therapy, Positive Psychology, Solutions Focused therapy, and she is especially passionate about Brain Health education. Heather uses an integrative and holistic approach that emphasizes the importance of self-compassion, growth mindset and brain/body health.
She works with students who are struggling with a wide variety of emotional issues: anxiety and adjustment disorders, anger and stress management, behavioral challenges, complicated grief reactions, self-image and self-esteem, and trauma recovery.
Heather has been working with Innovative Therapeutic Services as a school-based therapist for four years, beginning in 2018; she has provided both in person and virtual therapy to students and their families. Heather received her Master’s in Social Work degree from Portland State University in Portland, Oregon. Heather’s undergraduate degree was a BS in Psychology from the University of Oregon.
She received her teaching certification for international teaching from the Graduate School of Education at George Mason University. In addition to her work in the field of social work and mental health, Heather has worked as an international teacher in Israel, Ireland, India, Argentina, and Columbia.
