Cassandra Lawlor
Intern
Cassandra is a Masters Level Clinical Counseling Intern, providing therapy services at our Laurel Office, via telehealth, and in-person to students within Anne Arundel County Public Schools. She is currently completing her degree at Johns Hopkins University and receives supervision from Ashley Rooney, LCPC.
Cassandra approaches therapy with warmth, curiosity, and a commitment to collaboration, recognizing the profound impact of mental health across all areas of life and believing that even small steps toward healing can catalyze meaningful, lasting change. Drawing from diverse experiences, including working with adolescents, she deeply values and honors each person's unique story and inherent strengths. Her primary goal is to cultivate an emotionally safe space where clients feel empowered to be authentic and supported on their journey of navigating challenges and achieving growth, understanding that vulnerability is a gradual process and ensuring clients are never pressured to share more than they are ready for.
Cassanda utilizes an Integrative and highly individualized therapeutic philosophy, recognizing that effective treatment must be precisely tailored to each client's unique goals, cultural background, and specific needs. Her foundational approach is Person-Centered, establishing a warm, non-judgmental environment and genuinely supporting the client's inherent capacity for self-direction and growth, acting as a facilitator in their journey. Cassandra also draws on a Strengths-Based Perspective to empower clients, deliberately highlighting their existing resources and successes rather than focusing solely on deficits, which fosters resilience and facilitates positive change. She is actively expanding her skills in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), using this approach collaboratively to help clients challenge unhelpful thought patterns and acquire practical coping strategies, leading to tangible improvements in mood and daily functioning. Committed to expanding her clinical knowledge, Cassandra thoughtfully blends elements from various evidence-based modalities—including psychodynamic insights, mindfulness practices, and solution-focused techniques—to create a comprehensive and holistic treatment plan. Cassandra assists individuals facing a wide array of challenges, including Anxiety and Panic Disorders, Depression, Trauma, ADHD, Anger and Stress Management, Self-Esteem Challenges, Life Transitions and Family Concerns, and LGBTQ+ Issues.
Cassandra's personal interests include distance running, a passion since middle school, playing the piano, and reading diverse genres. Though her family resides in Florida, spending time with them is what she values most.
