Heather Fennerty, LCSW-C, believes in cultivating a supportive environment where students can thrive, learn, and reach their full potential. She champions the idea that equipping students with emotional support, psychosocial skills, mental health literacy, and self-care and coping mechanisms empowers them to effectively navigate the academic and social pressures common among young people.

With ten years of experience in the mental health field, Heather has worked in both outpatient mental health settings and schools. Her extensive background in education and as a teacher significantly influences her work as a therapist. She holds certifications in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. Heather is also a Board-Certified Supervisor with the Maryland Board of Social Work.


Heather offers in-person services within Montgomery County Public Schools. She frequently provides therapy to students dealing with ADHD, anger management, anxiety, body image issues, communication difficulties, divorce/separation, depression, disordered eating, grief, life transitions, OCD, panic disorders, self-esteem , and stress management. Heather approaches her practice with an integrated, person-centered, and strengths-based philosophy. She believes in tailoring her therapeutic methods to the unique needs of each individual, fostering their inherent strengths, and empowering them to achieve their personal goals. Heather frequently incorporates evidence-based techniques such as social skills training, which helps clients develop and refine their interpersonal interactions, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT). TF-CBT is a specialized approach designed to help individuals process and cope with the impact of traumatic experiences, promoting healing and resilience. Her integrated approach allows her to draw from various therapeutic modalities, ensuring a comprehensive and adaptable treatment plan for every client.
